The Galway Cartoon Festival is an international celebration of funny drawings, hosted in Ireland’s most sociable city. Galway is a place obsessed with art and culture, with festivals for everything from literature to furniture. But noticeable by its absence was the ‘ninth art’ – comics, caricature, and cartoons. In 2017, we decided to change that.
The Galway Cartoon Festival brings the finest cartoons and cartoonists from all over the globe to Galway. Our guests this year include Martin Rowson of the Guardian, Cristina Sampaio of SpamCartoons, Jean-Michel Renault, and Ed Steckley of MAD magazine and more, all top-flight talents in the cartoon world.
Come and meet them, draw with them, and hear their stories and insights.
We are holding shows this year in the new PorterShed 2, in the Galway City Museum, in the Town Hall Theatre, in An Taibhdhearc, the Pálás Cinema, and of course on Inis Oírr. There will also be drawing sessions and workshops all over the place.
The Galway Cartoon Festival is a wholly voluntary, non-profit-making project that depends on the generosity of the public and of our sponsors.
If you would like to help in any way, from volunteering and a show to funding one, please get in touch.
